The second generation Mercedes-Benz B-Class has just undergone a mid life cycle facelift, which includes updates to the exterior styling, interior enhancements and revised equipment lines.
“As the first member of a completely new generation of compact class, for us the B-Class paved the way for great success in this vehicle segment. The B-Class is the perfect car for anyone who attaches importance to practicality, comfort and safety, but at the same time doesn’t want to miss out on sportiness or driving dynamics, says Florian Seidler, executive director at Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa.
The refreshed B-Class can be distinguished through its redesigned front bumper, wider grille with twin louvres on either side of the three-pointed star, and daytime running lights that angle upward. The rear bumper now features additional chrome beading as well. The B250 model with optional LED headlamps will be distinguished even further with a more striking effect. Bicolour LED tail lamps are standard across the range.
The B-Class cabin has also been improved on, with the free-standing infotainment screen now measuring in at 8-inches, and new layout for the instrument cluster. There are now also 12 colours for the ambient lighting feature.
Mercedes-Benz has also revised the model range, with three design and equipment lines: Style, Urban and AMG Line. Each features a number of distinctive exterior and interior details. The Night, Exclusive and AMG Exclusive packages build on these and provide more options for individualisation.
The B-Class is available with a choice of two four-cylinder turbopetrol and two four-cylinder turbodiel engines. The B 200 makes use of a 1,6-litre motor that produces 115 kW and 250 N.m of torque, while the range-topping B 250 makes 155 kW and 350 N.m of torque. They consume 5,6 and 6,1 litres per 100 km respectiverly. Both oil-burners are 2,1-litre units with 100 kW and 300 N.m for the B 200, and 125 kW and 350 N.m for the B 250. The B 220 is the most fuel-efficient model in the range, sipping just 4,1 litres/100 km on the combined cycle (the B 200 uses just 0,2 litres more), and with CO2 rating of just 111 g/km is exempt from emissions taxation.
