Aimed at replacing the SL350, Mercedes-Benz has released the details of its new SL400. Whereas the outgoing model was equipped with a 3,5-litre, V6 naturally-aspirated petrol engine that developed 225 kW and 370 N.m, the new unit comfortably surpasses this mark.
The 3,0-litre, V6, biturbo (with a pressure of 1,8 bar) petrol engine develops 245 kW and 480 N.m, the latter from a very low 1 600 r/min. According to Mercedes-Benz the car only needs 5,2 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill and top speed is said to be 250 km/h. Claimed fuel consumption is 7,2 litres per 100 km.
As the last available price for the SL350 was R1 185 000, expect the Mercedes-Benz SL400, once it arrives locally, to be slightly higher. The rest of range still consists of the SL500, SL63 AMG and the bonkers SL65 AMG.
