Mini is set to introduce the Countryman John Cooper Works, its first ever all-wheel drive JCW model, early next year.
The Countryman JCW is powered by an uprated version of the 1,6-litre turbopetrol doing service in the S-badged model. Equipped with direct fuel injection and variable valve management, this unit develops 160 kW and 280 N.m of torque (300 N.m on overboost). This unit can be coupled with a choice of six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, both of which help to propel the Countryman JCW from standstill to 100 km/h in 7 seconds on the way to top speeds of 225 km/h (manual) or 223 km/h (automatic).
Power is sent to the road via Mini’s torque-apportioning ALL4 all-wheel drive system – a first for Mini’s JCW-fettled lineup – and is overseen by a stability control system and sport preset that sharpens up engine response and adjusts the assistance from the electric power steering.
The Countryman JCW rolls on a set of lightweigh 18-inch alloy wheels in a twin-spoke design – 19-inch items are available as an optional extra. The ride height has been lowered by 10 mm and the springs, dampers and anti-roll bars have been tuned for a stiffer, more sporty, setup.
A choice of seven xterior colurs are available, along with white and a model-specific shade of red for the roof and side mirror caps. The interior features piano black trim strips, sports seats, John Cooper Works door sills, an anthracite roof liner and dark dials for the speedometer and rev counter.
Like other models in the Mini lineup, the Countryman JCW is highly customisable and can be specified with such extras as comfort access, electric sunroof, park distance control, sat-nav with Mini Connect (in-car access to Twitter, Facebook etc), adaptive xenon headlamps and a Harmon/Kardon audio system.
The Mini Countryman JCW will arrive in SA during the first quarter of 2013, but orders fro this model can be placed from November this year.
