Only two months away, and already news of tantalising car reveals at this year’s Geneva Motor Show are starting to surface.
British motoring publication Autocar reports that McLaren will release a “more powerful and track-focused” version of the 650S at the show. It seems the company wants to pay homage to the McLaren F1 GTR “Long Tail” which raced at Le Mans in 1997, by naming the additional 650S model the 675 LT.
As this picture shows, the exterior updates will be centred around the front bumper as well as the elongated rear end. Closer inspection also indicates that the 675 LT will have significant sill extensions with another air intake – the latter of which could be for additional brake or engine cooling.
The same 3,8-litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine will be used, although power and torque are likely to rise from the current car’s 478 kW and 678 N.m.
This will also mean that the 0-100 km/h acceleration time could tumble by a tenth of a second (or two) while the top speed will also climb, especially owing to the longer rear end.
The 675 LT will also be lighter, and it could be a limited run production of only 250 cars.
It is clear that this car will be McLaren’s direct answer to Ferrari’s 458 Speciale. With the upcoming Ferrari 458 T, which will feature a turbocharged engine, the two manufacturers’ model ranges will almost mimic each other in the super- and hyper car category.
