Launched globally at the end of 2011, South Africans have had to wait nearly two years for the improved Opel Corsa OPC Nürburgring.
The improvements run much deeper than pure cosmetic changes. To kick things off, a lower ride height is incorporated with newly developed spring and damper units by Bilstein. Brake specialists Brembo also upgraded the front braking system.
Under the hood is where several of the new upgrades can be found. Software and turbocharger-system improvements have lead to an increase in engine power from 141 to 154 kW. Torque delivery increased from the standard car’s 230/266 N.m (the latter figure when the overboost function is used) to 250/280 N.m. The result is a drop in the acceleration time to 100 km/h to 6,8 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.
To effectively transfer this power through the front wheels to the road, Opel has equipped the car with a mechanical, multi-plate limited-slip differential on the front axle. According to Opel, the electronic stability control (ESC) has been recalibrated to work better with the increased performance.
Visual changes include two new colours, new forged aluminium wheels, a front spoiler lip and Nürburgring logos.
Be quick to grab one, since Opel will import only 65 of these cars to South Africa priced at R343 200.
