Porsche enthusiasts will be shocked to hear that the Stuttgart-based manufacturer plans to use forced induction across the 911 range, apart from the hardcore GT3 RS.
Porsche product chief Wolfgang Hatz told Autocar that the newly developed engine that will power the new 911 GT3 RS (set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March) will be its only normally-aspirated application. All other versions of the 911 will get a turbocharged version of the motor.
Widely believed to be a 4,0-litre, horizontally opposed six-cylinder motor, the GT3 RS’s new engine will produce 373 kW. Hatz also confirmed that a hardcore version of the Cayman, the GT4, is in the pipeline and will be revealed later this year – possibly at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Cayman GT4 will boast an output close to 300 kW and benefit from a significant drop in overall mass.
Lastly, Hatz also hinted about a sportscar that will fit between the 911 and 918 Spyder hypercar. The new model will feature a new V8 engine that it will share with the Panamera sedan and Cayenne SUV.
