The North American International Auto Show in Detroit saw Porsche lift the wraps off its range-topping SUV, the Cayenne Turbo S – that will hit showrooms in Europe in the latter half of this year.
The Cayenne Turbo S makes use of a revised version of the company’s twin-turbocharged 4,8-litre V8 that now produces 419 kW and 800 N.m of torque (14 kW and 50 N.m more than the pre-facelifted Turbo S) – thanks to the improved combustion process by placing turbochargers directly in the exhaust manifolds.
Needless to say, the Cayenne Turbo’s straight-line performance is phenomenal. It sprints to 100 km/h from rest in a claimed 4,1 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 284 km/h. Porsche also claims that the Cayenne Turbo S can lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:59.74 minutes – a record for production SUVs.
Plenty of engineering wizardry ensures that the Cayenne Turbo S keeps its 21-inch tyres planted to terra firma, such as the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) system and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, while the progress is brought to a halt through Porsche Composite Ceramic disc brakes that measure 420 mm and 370 mm front and rear, retarded by 10 piston and four piston calipers respectively.
