Following the local introduction of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW has now released the first details of the 2 Series Gran Tourer. It’s essentially a more luxurious Active Tourer which offers more space and two more seats. Although the concept is not new, the Gran Tourer will be unique in the sense that it will be (in our market at least) the only seven-seater, front-wheel-drive premium-brand car.
The car’s dimensions (4 556 long, 1 800 mm wide and 1 608 mm high) allow it a claimed loading capacity (once the rear seats are folded down) of 1 905 litres. The third row of seats can fold down in a 50:50 split, while the middle row is divided into three sections, 40:20:40.
The engine range will feature four turbocharged engines made up of three- and four-cylinder engines. These will include the 218i (1,5-litre, three-cylinder 100 kW/220 N.m), the 220i (2,0-litre, four-cylinder 141 kW/280 N.m), 216d (1,5-litre, three-cylinder 85 kW/270 N.m) and 218d (2,0-litre, four-cylinder 110 kW/330 N.m). Finally, the BMW will also offer several storage options, as well as different entertainment options which will include screens for the middle-row passengers. Four trim packages will be available: Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport!
Expect the local introduction before the end of the year.
