We have seen the spy shots over and over. Now, the full details of the new Porsche 991 GT3 RS have been revealed. It is the details that make for some interesting reading.
The RS features, in true Porsche lightweight tradition, an aluminium body, a magnesium roof, a carbon-fibre reinforced hood and engine lid. However, the result is only a 10 kg reduction in weight compared to the standard GT3. This means the RS is tipping the scales at still a respectable 1 420 kg.
Apart from the huge rear wing, the engine lid now also features a smaller wing to aid additional downforce. The front of the car features a prominent spoiler while the air vents above the front wheel arches is pure race car.
We suspected that Porsche would use the same 3,8-lite, flat-six engine found in the GT3. But, the company has opted to develop a new, 4,0-litre, flat-six engine. Together with the limited edition 997 Mark II 4.0 GT3 RS, this will be the largest engine ever fitted to a production 911.
The new engine develops 373 kW, which helps this rear-wheel drive car hit 100 km/h in only 3,3 seconds and 200 km/h in 10,9 seconds. Top speed is claimed to be 322 km/h. The RS is equipped with an updated 7-speed PDK transmission. All this contributes to an official Nürburgring lap time of 7:20 seconds.
Expect the RS to arrive in South Africa before the end of the year.
