Subaru Southern Africa has confirmed that the new WRX is now available to pre-order. Unfortunately pricing has not been revealed, but we estimate it will come in at about R450 000.
Under the scooped engine bonnet is, according to Subaru, a “new 2,0-litre, direct injection turbocharged 2,0-litre boxer engine”. Developing 197 kW at 5 600 r/min and 350 N.m from 2 400 r/min, Subaru claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6,0 seconds equipped with the manual gearbox. Interestingly, the sport lineartronic CVT transmission is 0,3 seconds slower to the same 100 km/h mark. Top speed is said to be 240 km/h.
As before the drivetrain is made up of the company’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system, which now includes active torque vectoring (ATV).
The exterior of the WRX includes several highlights. It starts with dual-twin exhaust pipes, a rear diffuser and boot spoiler. At the front and daytime running lights with the legendary scoop can be found at the front. All four corners are dressed with 235/45 R17 Dunlop SP Sport Maxx RT tyres.
The Subaru WRX will be launched in South Africa on 23 May.
