The updated Audi Q5 range is now available in South Africa. Audi claims that the raft of updates has resulted in better efficiency, a more attractive package and an extended model range thanks to the addition of a new engine.
The revised Q5 range features two TDI and three TFSI engines. The diesel options are made up of a 130 kW/380 N.m 2,0 TDI and a 180 kW/580 N.m V6 3,0 TDI. Fuel consumption stands at 6,0 litres/100 km for the smaller engine and 6,0 litres/100 for the top-of-the-range 3,0. Mated with a seven-speed S tronic transmission, the 3,0 TDI is capable to completing the zero to 100 km/h sprint in 6,5 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/h.
The entry-level 2,0 TFSI is available in two states of tune – 132 kW and 165 kW. The 132 kW is only available with a manual transmission, while the 165 kW version is available with an 8-speed Tiptronic setup. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures for the 132 kW and 165 kW TFSI engines are 7,1 litres/100 and 174 g/km, and 7,9 litres/100 km and 184 g/km respectively.
For those looking for a bit more punch, there’s the option of a new V6 3,0 TFSI supercharged engine. With outputs of 200 kW and 400 N.m, this engine is capable of propelling the Q5 to 100 km/h from standstill in 5,9 seconds. Fuel consumption is a claimed 8,5 litres/100 km, while CO2 emissions figures stand at 199 g/km.
Audi has equipped its Q5 with a five-link front suspension and trapezoidal-link rear suspension and a new electromechanical power steering system that, according to Audi, adjusts its power assist to vehicle speed and does not consume any energy in straight-line driving.
There are two specification packages available on the Q5 – S and SE. Standard comfort, convenience, safety and entertainment features across the range include cruise control, air-con, electro mechanical parking brake, driver information system with efficiency programme, ESP with hill descent control, Isofix child seat mounting in the rear, roof rails in aluminium, an array of airbags including side, front and curtain, and a stop/start system.
Exterior styling modifications include a revised interior design of the headlights, a more pronounced front end and updated bumpers. On the inside there have been subtle updates such as the addition of narrow chrome trim on the various controls and new-look control stalks, ignition key and instruments. The Audi central media component – MMI navigation plus – has been updated, along with the controls for the seat heating, Audi drive select system and the multifunction steering wheel.
