Let’s face it, we love our bakkies, be they single or double cabs. With this in mind, it is rather sad news that VWSA isn’t thinking of bringing the Volkswagen Amarok Canyon special edition to our shores.
In case you were wondering what we’ll miss out on, here’s are the facts:
The Canyon has the same top-of-the-range 132 kW/420 N.m than the 4Motion automatic model, but as the pictures show, a lot of additional kit has been added. According to a Volkswagen UK press release, there is over £8 500 (about R160 000 at the current exchange rate) of added extras.
These include a “high-shine styling bar”, side steps, side stripes and 19-inch Cantera alloy wheels. There is also the small matter of the bright Copper Orange paintwork which is replicated on the air-vent surrounds should this colour be ordered.
Two other colours that will be available include Deep Black and Reflex Silver. The special treatment continues on the inside. Features include a six-inch colour touchscreen with satellite navigation, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass, protective coating in the load area, and orange stitching for the leather steering wheel and gearknob. The optional roof light bar will set you back another £945 (R17 600).
In the UK, only 350 vehicles will become available, of which 50 will be manual 4Motion models and 300 4Motion models with the eight-speed automatic transmission. We are pretty sure Volkswagen will have a few die-hards dialling its number.
