It’s just a day after Volkswagen teased its new GTI Supersport Vision GT and the company’s made the preview video live. As a follow up to the GTI Roadster Vision Gran Turismo, launched last year to celebrate the 15th birthday of the Gran Turismo Playstation franchise, Volkswagen has prepared another special that will be available exclusively to PS3 gamers.
Where the previous Vision GT was a roadster, the new model is definitely a hatchback and in line with the GTI heritage. What’s obvious from the video is that the GTI Supersport Vision GT will feature the kind of hardcore bodykit that would befit a DTM racecar.
A wide carbon-fibre front splitter serves not only as an aerodynamic aid, but also houses an additional set of LED lamps for a distinctive light pattern. Enormous wheelarches, a massive rear wing and diffuser complete the package.
VW is keeping mum on the powertrain, but we have reason so believe it could very well be a tweaked version of the twin-turbocharged 3,0-litre VR6 that debuted on last year’s Vision GT. If that’s the case, expect a lot more than 375 kW and 665 N.m of torque to be sent through the seven-speed DSG transmission to all four wheels.
The GTI Supersport Vision GT will most likely be unveiled at the Worthersee festival in Austria next month, but is already available on Gran Turismo as a download in update 1.18.
