Korean manufacturer Hyundai and the makers of The Walking Dead comic series have once again collaborated to bring would-be zombie slayers the ultimate apocalypse survival machine at the New York Comic Con – a Santa Fe.
The Sante Fe Zombie Survival Machine was actually designed by Arizona-based fan Anson Kuo, who used The Walking Dead Chop Shop configurator app that was launched at the San Diego Comic Con to build the ultimate set of wheels with which to do battle against hordes of the undead.
Kuo’s submission was picked from more than 82 500 entries (fans could design a zombie survival machine from three of Hyundai’s models, the Elantra, Veloster and Santa Fe), and has been built by Southern California customizer Galpin Auto Sports for display in New York later this month.
“We love Anson Kuo’s take on this Santa Fe Zombie Survival Machine – it’s creative and deadly. With help from the popularity of The Walking Dead franchise, Hyundai continues to expand the conversation around Hyundai vehicles with young and passionate audiences,” said Steve Shannon, vice president of marketing at Hyundai America.
Kuo’s creation boasts plenty of blades in the bodywork, as well as razor-wired windows, three machine guns and if all else fails, a trusty katana (samurai sword).
The zombie-culling Santa Fe isn’t the Korean auto giant’s first foray into transport for the post-apocalyptic family. Last year’s Comic Con also saw a seemingly tame Hyundai Elantra was turned into a death-dealing fortress on wheels.
