Images and initial details of the 2013 Renault/Dacia Sandero have emerged ahead of the car’s official debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
The images show a more upmarket front-end treatment than that of the current model with a prominent, louvred grille and angular headlamps, while the rear bears a striking resemblance to that of the VW Polo. There are hints of cost-cutting measures evident in the simplistic flanks/door stamping largely bereft of creases and detailing, but overall it looks tidy enough.
European markets will see the new Sandero available with a choice of four trim levels; the lowest of which will be particularly Spartan and unlikely to feature such comfort and convenience features as air-conditioning and electric windows. The cabin image posted here, however, shows that top-tier models will come with a touch-screen infotainment system and a host of other features.
Although the engine line-up has yet to be confirmed, it’s believed that the new Sandero will play host to a four-cylinder petrol unit, Renault’s 1,5-litre turbodiesel and the 900 cc turbocharged three-cylinder from the new Clio. In fact, the new Sander will inherit a sizeable portion of its mechanicals from both the current and new iterations of the Renault Clio.
One of the areas where the Sandero hopes to take the fight to such budget rivals as the Ford Figo and VW Polo Vivo will be practicality. To this end, the Sandero features a 320 dm3 boot that can be expanded to 1 200 dm3 by folding the rear seatbacks.
More information regarding the new Sandero and its Logan stable mate will emerge closer to the Paris Motor Show. Given that the current Sandero is manufactured here in SA, it will be interesting to see if Renault will make a case for the new model’s inclusion on our market.
