Information regarding the eagerly awaited next-generation M3 have been leaked onto the ‘web, including the new saloon’s internal code and the nature of its stable mates.
A report from BMW enthusiast website, Bimmerpost, has revealed that the upcoming M3 saloon – yes, apparently there will be a four-door version after all – will wear the internal model code F80. The all-new 3 Series, which will make its official debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor, will be codenamed F30 and will share a portion of its componentry with the future M3.
But it’s not just the internal nomenclature that will change – according to the report, the saloon will be the only model to wear the hallowed M3 badge, with an M4 moniker supposedly applied to the coupe and convertible models.
Unlike previous iterations, the M3 saloon will reportedly be the first model to be launched in Europe during the second half of 2013 with its siblings following shortly thereafter.
