Mazda has served up a video glimpse of its next-generation Mazda6 saloon prior to its official unveiling at this year’s Paris Motor Show in September. Although fleeting, the video strongly suggests that the new model will draw inspiration from the Mazda’s Takeri concept.
The new Mazda6 will feature the company’s latest Kodo design language, which was first showcased on the CX-5 crossover. According to the company’s chief designer, Akira Tamatani “The deeply sculpted face with sharp eyes gazing forward, defined by the chrome ‘signature wing’, instantly conveys to onlookers that this must be Mazda’s new flagship sedan.”
There certainly are similarities to the Takeri concept’s frontal styling evident in the new car’s frontal styling and given the eye-catching visual treatments that have been doled out to previous iterations of the Mazda6, it’s a fair bet that the rest of the newcomer’s bodywork will echo that of the 2011 Tokyo show concept.
Mazda has remained tight-lipped regarding the new car’s technical details, but initial reports suggest that the company’s SkyActiv-G petrol engine will feature alongside a choice of six-speed manual and automatic transmission options in a bid to offer class-leading fuel economy. The Takeri utilized a 2,2-litre SkyActiv-D developing 130 kW and 400 N.m of torque while returning a claimed fuel-consumption figure of 4,7 litres/100 km.
The new Mazda6 will make its official debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show with sales commencing in early 2013.
