My Nissan NP200’s front brake pads needed replacement after 28 000 km. I've owned and driven various vehicles over many years and, based on past experiences, I find it difficult to imagine that a new set of brake pads doesn't last at least 30 000 km.
Could CAR shed some light on this issue?
Is my experience a typical problem unique to the NP200, or do other manufacturers encounter the same problem?
I’ve sent an e-mail to Nissan SA but have not had an answer.

Nissan SA should have answered you by now, but perhaps it doesn’t know the answer. As a matter of fact, modern brake pads seldom last for more than 30 000 km because previous long-lasting brake pads have been banned in most countries as the asbestos used in their construction was carcinogenic. The new pads are also harder, so that modern brake discs often need skimming at the same mileage. The problem is by no means unique to Nissan.
