Nissan has given the XE and SE versions of its popular X-Trail compact SUV a spec-related shot in the arm for 2012.
The upgrades applied to the XE and SE-spec models comprise a USB port, Bluetooth hands-free phone integration and audio streaming and a multifunction steering wheel. The range-topping LE specification remains unchanged.
Since 2001, Nissan has sold more than 22 000 X-Trails on the local market and the car has gained a great deal of popularity in the compact SUV segment. Despite the aforementioned specification upgrades, the X-Trail model line-up has been retained for 2012, along with such features as the practical modular cabin and respectable off-road ability thanks to the 4×4-i all-wheel drive system available on certain models.
The engine line-up will still comrise a pair of petrols (a 2,0-litre unit developing 102 kW and 198 N.m and a 2,5-litre unit developing 125 kW and 226 N.m) and a 2,0-litre turbodiesel with 110 kW and 320 N.m on tap. A choice of all-wheel and 4×2 drivetrains are offered on the diesels, while the entry-level petrol unit is 4×2 only. The both 2,5-litre models feature all-wheel drive.
Ross Garvie, Senior Product Manager for SUVs at Nissan South Africa states:”The X-Trail is all about lifestyle integration and an extension of one’s natural pioneering spirit. “People with multi-faceted modern lifestyles continue to choose the Nissan X-Trail–an experience which is now enhanced thanks to the 2012 model year upgrades.”
