Analysts had predicted an increase of about five cents a litre to the price of petrol. But the department of minerals and energy said that the under-recovery of eight cents a litre would be absorbed by the Equalisation Fund.
Motorists in Gauteng will continue paying R 3,92 per litre for petrol, while the price of diesel is R3,55 (0,3 per cent sulphur) and
R3,60 (0,05 per cent sulphur) per litre. Paraffin costs R3,43 in Gauteng. Motorists in coastal areas will pay R3,92 for petrol and R3,43 for diesel.
The price of petrol dropped by 18 cents a litre in January and that of diesel by 27 cents.
