After the fun and excitement of Day 1, which included a pirate-themed dinner at the hotel where most of the contestants are staying, Day 2 got a little more serious. But no less fun. The first day’s preliminary results had been posted the night before and the competitive spirit was plain to see; although it didn’t detract from the camaraderie, smiles and practical jokes.
Today’s route took us from George over Robinson Pass and on to the finish in Oudtshoorn. It was simple enough, but an unforeseen stop/go section on the pass – 3 km before the scheduled tea break at Eight Bells – had ruffled a few feathers. In a rally that has everything to do with average speeds, markers and exact timekeeping, an unscheduled stop is not exactly … ideal.
The rest of the day passed with little more drama and the contestants had the afternoon free to explore the town of Oudtshoorn.
