Delta has introduced new specifications to its popular Opel Corsa Utility range for the 2003 model year.
The Ford Motor Corporation of SA recently launched its locally-developed Fiesta-based Bantam in South Africa, and in response, the Port Elizabeth company has introduced changes to spruce up its Corsa Utility range in the very competitive sub-one tonne LCV market.
The basic specification level models are the 1,4i petrol and the 1,7-D diesel, with higher spec offered on the 1,4iS and 1,6iS.
The top of the range "Sport" models feature front and rear colour coded bumpers, mirrors and wheel-arch mouldings. In addition, the rear tail light clusters now have a ‘smoked’ look.
The 1,4iS and 1,6iS also feature a new design 14" alloy wheels fitted as standard equipment. Front fog lights are also standard.
For the 2003 model year, an air conditioner is fitted as standard on the 1,4iS. The 1,4iS has a convenience light in the glovebox. Revised cloth trim is featured on the seats of the two iS models.
The base level Corsa Utility 1,4i and 1,7 D have "see through" front head restraints and tinted side windows. The 1,4i gains a sliding rear window, already a standard item on the 1,7-D.
A three-year VIP support plan – which offers owners a 24-hour roadside assistance in the case of an emergency – and a three-year/100 000 km warranty package (with anti-corrosion protection) are offered as standard across the range.
The 1,4iS and 1,6iS have power steering, alloy wheels, radio/CD combination, air-conditioner, digital clock, outside temperature display and rev counter as standard.
Both the 1,4 and the 1,6 litre petrol engines have multi-point electronic fuel injection. The 1,4-litre version produces 65 kW at 6400 r/min with 112 N.m of torque at 2 800 r/min. The 1,6-litre engine produces 72 kW at 5 800 r/min and 142 N.m at 3 200 r/min.
According to a Delta spokesman, the 1,7-litre diesel engine returns a fuel consumption figure of under 5,4 litres per 100 km with a full payload at 100 km/h. This engine produces 42 kW at 4 300 r/min and 105 N.m at 2 700 r/min.
"Our new Corsa Utility range was launched with the catch phrase of ‘work hard, play harder!’. The Corsa Utility joins our Corsa Lite range of entry level models to form a strong pillar of our overall marketing strategy," Delta director of sales and marketing Malcolm Gauld said.
