As was the case with its Zonda, there will be a roadster version of Pagani's recently released Huayra. Company founder Horacio Pagani confirmed this with another motoring website, stating that this car should see the light in the next three years.
This means that we as South Africans might see the test mules of the future roadster on local soil, as was also the case with the coupé. But it's unlikely we'll ever be able to buy it, as Daytona no longer imports these super-expensive machines.
It is highly likely that the roadster will make use of the exactly the same engine as fitted to the coupé. This means a 6,0-litre V12 AMG engine from Mercedes-Benz, that has been strengthened and improved to deliver 522 kW and a limited 1 000 N.m, will power the rear wheels.
Due to the use of a carbon fibre/titanium monocoque, torsional rigidity shouldn’t really be affected by the removal of the roof.
Acceleration should be similar to that of the coupé which means that 100 km/h will be achieved in around 3,0 seconds while top speed, depending on whether the roof is open or closed, could be as high as 350 km/h.
