The Citroën C3 Pluriel was voted cabriolet of the year 2003 by 17 of Europe’s motoring journalists from 11 countries.
Vincent Besson, director of products and markets, accepted the prize on the Citroën stand at the Geneva motor show. The jury drew particular attention to the styling and originality of the C3 Pluriel.
The Pluriel, which is part of the C3 range, will go on sale internationally this year.
Starting off as a three-door saloon, the C3 Pluriel can morph into a cabriolet, a four-seater Spider or a Spider pick-up. The roof folds down on to the rear window and disappears into the false floor of the boot.
The rear seat of the Pluriel is designed to retract into the floor. The load area of each variant can be extended and the vehicle turned from a four-seater into a two-seater.
The Pluriel also won a star in the 2003 Design Observer, an event organised by the French Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Design, late last year.
The judges said the Pluriel won the prize not only for its design but also for its modularity, a unique feature through which it is able to satisfy user requirements at any given time.
