The new Volkswagen Polo saloon is now available locally and joins the Polo hatch, CrossPolo, Polo BlueMotion and GTI in the model range.
The family resemblance is obvious, with the front bearing close resemblance to other Volkswagen models. This all-new model features body-coloured bumpers, front fog lamps and the choice of two headlamp styles in Trendline and Comfortline specification.
Three engines are available – 1,4- and 1,6-litre petrol units and a 1,6-litre turbodiesel. The 63 kW 1,4 Polo has a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 12,8 seconds and a top speed of 178 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is 5,9 litres/100 km and it emits 139 g/km of CO2.
The larger 1,6-litre petrol unit has a maximum output of 77 kW and torque of 155 N.m, while the 1,6 TDI delivers 250 N.m between 1 500 and 2 500 r/min. Fuel consumption is 4,6 litres/100 km and it emits 120 g/km CO2.
Standard comfort, entertainment and safety features on the base Trendline model include air-conditioning, remote central locking, alarm, two cup holders, front and side airbags, Isofix child-restraint anchorages, and ABS with EBD. The Comfortline specification package adds electrically adjustable and heated side mirrors, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, 15-inch alloys, height adjustment on the passengers seat, and an MP3-compatible audio system with AUX input. ESP comes as standard on the TDI model.
