Swiss specialist car builder Rinspeed has produced a multi utility vehicle concept that can change from a Porsche 911 Turbo “estate” into a pick-up in 10 seconds (see animated graphic on the right).
Christened the Rinspeed Bedouin, it is the flagship design and technology carrier for Rinspeed’s Porsche tuning and customising line and will make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The vehicle is based on the Porsche 996 Turbo platform and is fitted with the 3,6-litre six-cylinder twin turbocharged engine.
The Bedouin is powered by liquid natural gas and is said to develop 313 kW, sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 5,9 seconds and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The company has been reluctant to release too much information about the Bedouin before the vehicle’s debut in Geneva, but a spokesman said that the super fast estate-bakkie will feature “futuristic and innovative lighting technology”, all-terrain tyres and an interior custom-designed by Swarovski.
And in the spirit of the recently-launched Porsche Cayenne SUV, Rinspeed has optimised the Bedouin for off-road use by a raising the vehicle’s ground clearance and adding electronically-adjustable suspension.
CARtoday.com will provide more details of the Bedouin when the Geneva Motor Show starts in March…
