We’ve already brought you news of the current range-topping Porsche Cayman, the GTS. But it seems no sooner than the folks at Zuffenhausen launched that car they are busy readying another hot Cayman, the GT4.
This latest car was spotted out on the open road recently. Boasting large alloys, a lower ride height and a very serious bodykit, the GT4 will lead the range when it eventually makes production, rumoured to be in the next year or two.
Details of the powertrain are sketchy but the good money says that Porsche will choose this model to debut it’s new range of turbocharged flat-four engines, with some added electric boost from an electric motor. Power will be delivered to the rear wheels via the firm’s slick twin-clutch (PDK) transmission.
GT4 is the designation for a production-based class of racing rules employed around the world. This would mean that the hottest Cayman will be lighter than any of its siblings, sort of like a GT3 911 compared to cooking variety 911s.
With enough power and what should be an exceptional dynamic package, the GT4 could well end up being a thorn in the side of the 911 family.
