Speculation regarding the Porsche Macan, a compact SUV that will go head-to-head with Range Rover’s Evoque, has been rife. Now, in the lead-up to the vehicle’s November launch at the LA Auto Show, these images and some specification details have been released. The info is believed to have emanated from a source at a dealer conference.
The Macan will be launched as two variants – the Macan S powered by a 3,6-litre petrol engine and Macan Turbo with a 3,0-litre twin-turbo motor. Power is reputed to be about 230 kW for the S model and approximately 300 kW for the Turbo. Power will be transferred to all four wheels by Porsche’s 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Externally the Turbo sports four squared-off exhaust tips, while the S version features rounded ends. Not only is the Macan going to be significantly more affordable than its Cayenne sibling, but the more compact and lighter package will, in all likelihood, result in a sportier driving experience.
Based on the (historically) short lead time for new Porsche models to be launched locally after their international introductions, we predict the Macan will on sale in South Africa around the middle of next year.
