Pretoria police nabbed three hijackers after they jumped a red robot in a stolen car – with its owner still inside.
This followed the earlier hijacking of Janine Drennen, 24, her one-year-old daughter Kayla, and her fiance’s mother Hester Rawstone, 52, in Sunnyside.
The hijackers shot Rawstone in the neck and dumped her body. They then drove to Stinkwater near Hammanskraal, where they kidnapped a teenaged girl.
They raped Drennen and the girl, then shot them both and the baby Kayla. The teenaged girl survived and was admitted to the Jubilee hospital.
Fortunately, hijack victim Annemarie Mostert, 24, did not suffer the same fate on Wednesday. quoted Inspector Percy Morokane as saying that Mostert was hijacked along Soutpansberg Road in Queenswood at 10pm.
She stopped at a red robot, next to a red Opel in which there were four men. Three got into her car, a green Volkswagen Golf, and forced her into the front passenger seat before speeding off.
Police on patrol saw the Golf jumping a red robot and gave chase. The car was stopped in Eersterust and all three men were arrested. Mostert was unharmed.
Police later found a 9mm pistol which the men apparently threw out of the Golf during the chase, said Morokane.
Meanwhile, a fourth suspect in the case of the hijacking and murder of the members of the Drennen-Rawstone family was arrested on Tuesday.
Police Superintendent Morne van Wyk said members of the violent crime units of Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa arrested a 22-year-old man in Soshanguve.
The suspect was expected to appear in court on Thursday.
