No sooner had we posted spy pictures of the eagerly awaited Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar in unusual Martini “Hippie” vestments, when Porsche decides to give it the full Martini racing livery treatment.
Much like the swirly “Hippie” livery scheme, the now-iconic red, white and blue Martini livery harks back to the 917 racers of the 1970’s – among which Porsche attained its first victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This example is pleasingly bereft of cladding and camouflage, and shows off the 918 Spyder in its most flattering light to date.
Initial reports suggest that a hybrid set-up comprising a 4,6-litre V8 engine teamed with a pair of electric motors and coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission powers the 918 Spyder. The combined power output will stand in the region of 568 kW – enough to propel the 918 Spyder from standstill to 100 km/h in a shade under 2,9 seconds and on to a top speed of 330 km/h
