Bernie Ecclestone is so impressed with Moscow that he has punted the Russian capital as a possible Grand Prix venue.
Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone believes Russia will host a Grand Prix within the next two years.
“Moscow is now ready for Formula One. I am convinced that the first race there will be held within the next two years.
“My last visit to Moscow was 10 years ago,” Ecclestone said. “Now I barely recognise the city – the changes are enormous.”
It’s believed that all facilities should be in place in time for a 2003 event, should the project be approved.
“This is good for Russia,” Ecclestone said. “And even better for the Formula One organisation. It will be a great show.”
This could end South Africa’s hopes of hosting a Grand Prix after recent rumours that Ecclestone was looking at Cape Town as a possible venue. Bahrain has also starting building a Grand Prix circuit with the hope of winning the right to stage a race.
