The concept version of Audi’s allroad quattro was so well received in Detroit that Ingolstadt has given the go-ahead for a production version of the crossover.
The allroad concept was initially developed by Audi as a way to celebrate its 25 years of quattro permanent all-wheel drive technology. First shown at the Detroit Motor Show in January this year, the concept’s favourable reception prompted Audi’s decision to build the next allroad quattro.
The production version, a crossover between the A6 Avant and an off-roader, again combines quattro all-wheel drive and adaptive air suspension with variable ground clearance, as seen on the first generation version.
The second generation crossover will be launched worldwide towards the middle of 2006. Whether Audi SA will be allocated any of the new allroads has yet to be decided.
