The Department of Mineral and Energy Affairs announced on Monday that it expects the price of fuel to drop by as much as 45 cents a litre in January.
In a statement, the department said it expected the price of diesel with a sulphur content of 0,3 per cent to drop by 36 cents a litre. Diesel with a 0,05 per cent sulphur content could see a decrease of 38 cents a litre on January 5.
The price of petrol could drop by up to 45 cents a litre. The overall drop in fuel prices has been attributed to the drop in international fuel prices and refined petroleum products during the past review period.
The stronger average rand/US dollar exchange rate over the same period had also contributed to the over-recovery of fuel prices.
