It certainly seems as if Renault is hard at work. In the first video to promote its #Under8 campaign, the French manufacturer illustrates how a new Akrapovič exhaust system is manufactured and installed in the Mégane RS.
However, the Internet rumour mill suggests that the updated version is likely to be called the RS275R, meaning a power output of around 205 kW. Torque output could be as high as 400 N.m. More importantly, it is said that Renault’s engineers is aiming for a lap time of 7:45 seconds – a full 13 seconds faster than the current record holder, Seat’s Leon Cupra.
This means that the RS275R could be faster than some V10 supercars. It is unclear how Renault will go about achieving this time, but the focus has been on weight reduction from the beginning, meaning we won’t rule out the deduction of the rear seats. Chassis stiffness might also increase owing to the fitment of a half-cage. More will be revealed in the coming weeks.
