On all my previous vehicles, including my current Toyota Auris, I have noticed the manufacturers fi t rev counters that indicate up to 8 000 r/min but the engine will not rev further than something like 6 500 r/min.
I can understand that the speedometer is kept standard across the range, but to cut down costs by showing an engine speed that cannot be reached is beyond understanding.

Using the same rev counter throughout the range is a cost-saving measure, but most people aren’t bothered by this.
