Update
Mazda Southern Africa has confirmed that the CX-3 will be launched in South Africa next year. According to the importer, the CX-3 will “become a staple model in South Africa’s Mazda vehicle line-up”.
Following a dangerously quite period in terms of releasing new models by Mazda, the company is currently on a roll.
After the release of the new Mazda2, the new 6 as well as the new 3 hatchback and MX-5 sports car, the Japanese manufacturer has unveiled the newest member to its family, the Mazda CX-3 compact crossover.
The chosen venue was the Los Angeles Auto Show where Mazda took the wraps off its first ever crossover vehicle.
As is the case with the vehicles mentioned above, Mazda’s Kodo styling theme means the CX-3 has a clear family resemblance compared to the rest of the range.
Under the bonnet Europeans will have access to three options. Mazda’s 2,0-litre petrol engine in two different states of tune, and a 1,5-litre turbodiesel engine. Both a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed automatic transmission are also on the cards. More interestingly is the fact that front-wheel drive as well as all-wheel drive versions will become available. No other information or performance figures have been made available.
The CX-3 will be launched in Japan during the second quarter of the next year.
