The redesigned Rexton II will be launched in its home market at the end of the month and though details remain unclear, SsangYong has released two pictures of the SUV.
At the front, the grille area is more structured and the fog lamps less conspicuous for a neater front end. The clear headlamps are retained, though the housings have been updated for a more modern effect.
The SUV’s profile looks decidedly beefier with its race-ready wheel arches, though whether the outrageous roof spoiler has been abandoned remains unclear. It also appears the two-tone paintwork has become a thing of the past.
A totally re-engineered vehicle, in Korea the Rexton II will also benefit from SsangYong’s new third generation 2,0-litre common rail diesel powerplant developed with Mercedes-Benz. This new engine is currently available in the new Kyron compact SUV.
According to a local SsangYong representative, the Rexton IIs “facelift” will not be too extensive. He added that the current 2,9-litre turbodiesel will be discontinued, and that the new 2,0-litre common rail engine would not be included in the line-up.
He added that the new vehicle should be available in South Africa “in roughly three months”.
