Rinspeed has us BamBoo-zled
With creations even more cuckoo than the clocks for which its homeland is famous, Swiss concept car creator Rinspeed is readying a "grown up golf cart" for the upcoming Geneva Motor Show…
Dubbed the BamBoo, this left-of-centre lifestyle vehicle concept echoes such no-frills holiday wheels as the Mini Moke and, like the Moke, will feature numerous touches that are sure to turn heads. Rinspeed founder Frank M. Rinderknecht has called upon the services of renowned contemporary pop artist James Rizzi to decorate one of the units with a playful motif that hints at the fun locales where this car could theoretically cruise. In addition, the BamBoo will also sport Rizzi’s calling card – the “Rizzi Bird” – a roll-bar adornment that changes colour like a mood ring and a beach scene on its inflatable roof.
Power will be provided by an as yet unspecified electric motor, while a foldable electric two-wheel vehicle will reportedly be stowed somewhere on board.
True to its name, the BamBoo’s cabin will make extensive use of bamboo in its cabin further adding to the beach/holiday theme. While the overall concept is a bizarre one, the press release almost surpasses the car in the quirk stakes – quote;
“The “BamBoo” is the only true lifestyle vehicle with electric drive. It doesn’t only offer pure pleasure for the eyes, but let’s its occupants breathe the intoxicating lavender aromas of the south, the salty breezes of the beach and the sweet resinous fragrances of the pine forests in almost noiseless travel.”
..Far out.
But what is even more surprising is the fact that Rinspeed seriously wants the BamBoo to go into production, either as an electric or conventionally powered version. If this comes to fruition, the BamBoo could well pop up in car rental locations and popular vacation spots.
