After Subaru recently released a road-going version of the Impreza WRX Sti used by world rally driver’s champion Petter Solberg, rival rally manufacturers have come up with some road versions of their own.
Mitsubishi will unleash the even higher performance MR (Mitsubishi Racing) version of the Lancer Evo VIII road car. Although the power will remain unchanged from the standard 208kW Evo VIII, the engine will be tuned for competition use, with the emphasis on power output in the mid- to high-rev range.
The MR variant is also lighter, has a lower centre of gravity, electronic four-wheel-drive system with active centre differential and fast-response Bilstein suspension.
Inside, there are racing-style Recaro seats finished in suede and a carbon-fibre dashboard.
Similarly, Citroën is hoping to jack up the competitive junior WRC contender with a body-styling kit for the C2 Super 1600.
The 1,6-litre competition car will include front, side and rear skirts and develop 168kW, light years away from the fastest street version capable of producing only 82kW.
