Porsche AG announced that the former executive director of Saab’s design studio, Michael Mauer, has been appointed to take over as its chief designer on July 1.
Mauer replaces Harm Lagaay, who retires after 15 years in the post. He will be based at Porsche’s research and development centre in Weissach, Germany.
Mauer started his career at Mercedes-Benz. In 1989 he was appointed design project leader for the Mercedes V Class models and was in charge of design work for the first generation SLK.
Later he was appointed head of department and given design responsibility for the A-Class, SLK and SL models. In 1998, he moved to the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in Tokyo as general manager and in 1999 was appointed as Smart’s head of design where he was responsible for the Roadster Coupe’s initial development. Thereafter, he moved to head Saab Design and the GM advanced design studio.
Saab’s Head of Advanced Design, Anthony Lo, has been named acting director of Saab Design until a successor is announced.
