Delta Motor Corporation’s Opel Assembly Plant has won the National Occupational Safety Association’s top safety award.
Delta Motor Corporation’s Opel Assembly Plant has been awarded the National Occupational Safety Association’s top safety award in recognition of a million injury-free man-hours of production.
NOSA Business Development Manager Leanne Franks said the accolade was indicative of good safety systems at the plant, adherence to the systems, and commitment by management to enforce compliance of these systems.
Franks said the Struandale-based facility had achieved “a milestone” through its high standards of safety and therefore its exceptional safety record.
The Opel plant, which has already produced in excess of 100 000 units of the popular Astra and Corsa models, is regarded as one of the most technologically advanced assembly facilities in the southern hemisphere.
Vehicle Assembly Operations Director Michael Pearton said: “We strive for a safe working environment by using a continuous improvement culture, which includes all members of the greater Delta team.”
He explained that these improvements ranged from improved equipment, work procedures, training and commissioning, to rigorous investigation of the root cause of accidents to try to prevent future occurrences.
The high standards of safe production at Delta were first recognised by NOSA during 1988, when the company was awarded their five-star rating.
