Speed freaks will gather at the Saldanha airfield on Saturday, with races in five classes in the cars category and three classes in the bike category.
Speed freaks will be gathering at the Saldanha airfield on Saturday with races in five classes in the cars category and three classes in the bike category.
Any street car or motorbike can compete over a distance of 800 m and the stopping area is 600 m.
Robbie Ferroli will be there with his twin-engine Golf, as well as Ebraheem de Long with his Datsun 2-litre, Nasser Williams with the Toyota 1600 and the Allie brothers with their potent Escort 1600 called “Patches”, because of the patches of bodyfiller and undercoat. Zane Ryklief will be out with his newly-built Ford Escort V6.
There will be trophies for first, second and third place and all the competitors will receive a certificate with their fastest speed of the day. There will also be cash prices for the class winners.
All the competitors must wear long sleeves and a helmet. Safety belts in the cars must be in a working order.
It will cost R50 to enter a vehicle in a race, spectators pay R20 and entrance is free for children under 12. The gates open at 8 am and the first run of the day starts at 9 am.
