The Schumacher brothers have criticised Eddie Jordan for firing Heinz-Harald Frentzen and believe the British team may have made a mistake.
Michael Schumacher said Jordan should have stuck with Frentzen as he is their most successful driver in a difficult season. Frentzen managed to score points in the first three Grands Prix of the season, but struggled after that.
“I feel very sorry for Heinz-Harald,” said Michael Schumacher. “It is a bit of a shame because they had a good time together in 1999 which means Heinz-Harald cannot be too bad a driver. But when times are difficult you should stick with your driver.
“Certainly, I’m not very happy seeing what has happened to Heinz-Harald, but he might get a better opportunity now.”
Ralf Schumacher said he had heard rumours Frentzen already has another drive lined up for next year, but did not say where.
“I’ve heard rumours that Heinz-Harald is going to be in F1 again next year with a different team. If that is the case I am sure it is a better option for him anyway,” he said.
Ralf revealed that he had “problems” in his two years with the Jordan team.
“In previous years I have had problems with this team. It appears to happen sometimes that there are problems,” he said. “But if people don’t work well together anymore it is better to stop working with each other.”
