With 2014 around the corner and development on the new cars in full swing, the transition between the current crop of F1 cars and next year’s may yet prove to be much bigger than anticipated.
Current Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, recently experienced an early version of the Ferrari F1 car in the simulator for the first time and said that the new turbo-powered vehicle was difficult to drive.
“When I tried it for the first time, it was really difficult to drive,” said Alonso. “But each new simulation changes everything, so I am sure it will be very different by Melbourne.”
Massa, despite joining Williams next season, also had the chance to experience next year’s Ferrari.
“It’s a different world to this year,” he said. “There is so little grip; it’s like driving in the rain.”
After finishing behind Red Bull Racing for the past four seasons, Ferrari hopes to gain from perhaps the biggest technical changes in F1 history coming into play next year, as it will, to some extent, level the playing field.
