Despite selling slower than expected, a Toyota executive has confirmed the company is already planning a second-generation 86.
Speaking to Motoring, Toyota Motor Europe executive vice-president of sales and marketing, Karl Schlicht, said the company is “serious about keeping the 86 pure and keeping a car like that in our lineup.” Apparently, the company believes dropping exciting cars from its portfolio would hurt its image.
Schlicht concluded by saying the current model needs to complete its lifecycle first before the new 86 is launched. We can only hope it will receive BMW engines as opposed to the current, oft-criticised boxer powerplant (Toyota and the German manufacturer recently signed an engine-development and sharing agreement).
