It seems that hardly a week goes by before we report on another new Mustang. Last week, we brought you all the info on the track focused Shelby GT350R. This week we have the Shelby Mustang GT.
This “new” model boasts a supercharged V8 motor that develops 470 kW, easily placing it among the most powerful coupes coming from Europe. But wait, that’s not all; with a few choice upgrades the motor can develop in excess of 520 kW. Owners can have their existing ‘Stang upgraded to GT spec or simply buy a new model from a Shelby dealership.
Enhancements over and above a standard high-performance Mustang include options from the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalogue, including a different final drive, a larger exhaust, lightweight alloys, Michelin tyres and six-piston Wilwood brakes on the front axle. Visually, a carbon-fibre bodykit wih rear diffuser has been adopted, and billet front aluminium grilles help differentiate this highest-powered Mustang from the herd. A carbon-fibre bonnet – clearly seen in the pic above – also helps to reduce mass.
“This 2015 Shelby GT incorporates all of the engineering lessons we’ve learned building high performance vehicles over the past 50 years,” said Joe Conway, co-CEO of Carroll Shelby International and CEO of Shelby American. “With the international distribution of the current Ford Mustang, we worked closely with our partners to develop a car that can be offered in both North America and overseas. It’s the first Shelby muscle car in our history designed from day one to be a truly global vehicle.”
