The nature of the Silverstone circuit where this weekend's battle will be contested allows for great battles among several riders for the lead. At last year's showdown, up to ten riders were involved in the fracas for the top position and this year is expected to be no different.

And with none of the current competitors having won at Silverstone, chances are the rider with the most wins so far this season, Laconi, probably has the best chance at victory. With a few points separating him from his team mate, Toseland will be in top nick too as he carries the support of his home crowd.

However, the charismatic Pierfrancesco Chili, despite some uncompleted races, including one at Oschersleben, is still firmly placed in the overall standings and is currently in third position.

The Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga has already won two races this season, and along with his rapidly developing team mate Leon Haslam, they make an impressive team.

Another strong contender Chris Vermeulen has already secured two podium finishes this season on his Honda and should continue to impress at Silverstone on Sunday.

The plans for team Foggy Petronas are back on track with Troy Corser having recovered suitably from his high speed crash in Germany. Corser sustained neck and spine injuries when he hit a tyre wall and after receiving treatment this week will take part in his team's home event.

Corser and team mate Chris Walker are separated by just one point at eighth and ninth in the rider standings.

Garry McCoy is another rider who has already scored a win this season, but having an unpredictable year so far McCoy will be looking for some consistently fast laps to improve his championship position.
