Legendary guitarist Eric 'Slow Hand' Clapton’s driving licence was confiscated on the spot after authorities clocked him doing 216 km/h in his Porsche 911 Turbo.

Clapton was stopped near Merceuil in western France after radar caught him driving at more than 80 km/h above the speed limit.

The 16-time Grammy winner apparently took the news well, allowing officials to take pictures of him before paying the R 5 800 fine. He then left the scene, this time with his secretary behind the wheel.

The courts have yet to decide on the length of Clapton’s licence suspension in France. He will still be able to drive in other countries after recovering his licence through diplomatic channels.
