Following the successful local introduction of the Audi A1 – close to 1 000 units have been sold in three months – Audi SA has added a range-topper in the form of the 1,4 T FSI S line S tronic.
The 1.4 T FSI engine boasts a super- and turbocharger and develops 136 kW and 250 N.m of torque, 1 kW and 10 N.m more than the Mini Cooper S. The sprint to 100 km/h takes a brisk 6,9 seconds and top speed is 227 km/h.
The 1,4 T FSI has a seven-speed S tronic ‘box as standard, as well as Ambition equipment line, 17-inch wheels, S line exterior package, climate control, black headlining and an LED interior light package.
All this comes at a price, of course… At R312 000 (which does include a comprehensive five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan), it makes its sister car – the VW Polo GTI – look like a relative bargain at R280 000 (with a comparable maintenance plan factored-in). A Mini Cooper S outo is R307 600 with CO2 emissions tax included, while you can nab the bigger VW Scirocco 1,4 TSI (with the same engine) for just over R290 000.
