Supermini fans in South Africa will be spoilt for choice soon with word that the spunky three-door Citroën C2 will arrive next year. Just how will this innovative pocket rocket do?
According to , the little C2 has squared-off headlamps and large wheel arches providing room enough for 16″ wheels. It has a dynamic stance and minimal overhangs.
The C2 range includes 1,1 and 1,4 petrol engines, a 1,4 Hdi diesel engine and the sporty 82-kW 1,6 VTR model. There is also a SensoDrive paddleshift gearbox version.
“We are very excited about the C2 and it will be coming to South Africa next year,” said a Citroën South Africa spokesman. “We still have to wait for the official launch and the production schedule before the engines, spec levels and pricing are finalised.”
The four-seat Citroën C2 has a range of bright design schemes, including orange, blue and green, for the colour-coded trim and matching coloured translucent gear lever knob and armrests. It also has sliding and folding rear seats, which result in more legroom and plenty of luggage space.
The boot features a split tailgate with a glass that hinges like a hatchback and a drop-down lower tailgate with its own storage compartment.
Though the spec levels for the models due in South Africa have not been confirmed yet, the initial equipment list is long. It has automatic air conditioning, electronic parking assistance, remote stereo controls, multi-adjustable steering wheel, light sensitive headlamps, rain sensitive windscreen wipers and an overspeed warning.
Safety features include ABS with EBD and EBA, automatic hazard warning lights, ESP and traction control, reinforcing bars in the doors, a retracting steering column and six airbags.
